IY Elixir is the 2024 edition of the Y series of men's perfumes from Saint Laurent. I was curious to try this one, and so, I got some samples to give the cologne a full test.

My full review

Here's how YSL describes it: IY Elixir is a sexy, deep, woody-spicy cologne for men in extreme concentration.

After the first spray I immediately see this as part of a Y line. The geranium here is the one found in both EDP and A lot. But, a very important role.

Now, sometimes geranium can have a little apple like scent in it, but I'm sure they just added a touch of EDP mix to make a small hint of the opening action of Y EDP. However, the blue-ish tone is very muted.

Lavender and geranium are the stars here, especially the latter. The lavender gives this a clean, soapy scent. But, that's more than being intimidated by the spice, the earth, the rawness, the burn, and the curcumin.

It is very cold and wet in these early stages. Not blue or bold like EDP for example. Although, this one has some depth and I enjoy how it fades and is easy to wear.

Oud adds to the base and woodiness. However, it's not all that big of note here in the early stages. Also, the incense article provides a less intense smoke. Both are really good in support of the other two articles.

Elixir is not too complex of a fragrance. The back half will be a lavender led affair, still clean and with a soapiness to it. On top of the wood feel to it, there are early stages of wear.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

This scent starts off strong with a projectile ability, while never being too heavy for a cologne. It doesn't create a thick cloud of scent around you, but hangs in the air nicely.

That first hour is even stronger. After that, it goes into something above average, although nothing powerful. It sticks before it becomes a skin scent.

Y L'Elixir lasts about 9 hours, on my skin. During the test, it seems to have gone for 7.5 hours, but it does not exceed the 9 marks.

He is a very solid player, just not one to spend elite status.

Seasonally, Elixir is best from fall to spring. I don't really like them in extreme temperatures, either hot or cold. Other than that, it's a nice fragrance that works well.

It's a versatile fragrance that goes everywhere. It's not a big attraction, if you want something for night life or a romantic outfit. Office, casual, everyday wear…Elixir does the job very well.

Total impressions of Y Elixir

Overall, do I like Y Elixir? Well, I actually think it's one of Y's best scents. I definitely don't like the price of this (companies are getting worse with 'Elixir” releases and what they call them), but for that I enjoy the way Y Elixir smells.

This, however, will not be a fragrance that will be noticed by everyone. Maybe not a big idea to blind buy it, but you should try it in store or get a sample of Y Elixir, to see how you react to this scent.

It's not a bad scent, by any means, some might think Elixir is kind of bland and boring. I do not. That's exactly what I've seen some negative reviews of this product say.

Personally, I really like the low usage of these points. Geranium and lavender are given a lot of time to shine and this could be an option for those looking for a cologne that goes well with the office.

Y EDP and Perfume they are still better than this, in my opinion. However, I think it might be my third favorite in the line. If eau de parfum is too much for you, this is a better alternative.

Again, what does that cost? It's not what they charge, but I like this one and wouldn't mind owning a bottle.

The more time I spend with Elixir, the more I like it. So, maybe there is still room for improvement in Y's fragrance levels.
